I appreciate all the discussion over the past few days about my album, "心中的日月 ". It is so different from anything I've done in
the past, and as I have repeatedly stated, is a new beginning, the
attempt to create a clearer sonic identity for Chinese hip-hop music,
the, "Chinked-out" style. Whether I succeeded or not in this goal,
only time will tell. I definitely don't expect everyone to "get it"
right away...and that's ok!

To me, making music is not about winning awards. Creating songs that
I believe in and sharing them with the world is my greatest joy and I
feel blessed to be able to do what I love. That to me, is where all
the success is. If I win awards, if my album sells well, that's just
a bonus.

I know my supporters feel strongly about this album, and so do I. But I don't care if it doesn't win an award, so please don't feel bad! In fact many of the most important musical works in history were critically denounced at the time.

I'd rather spend my time and energy moving forward, helping to create, not destroy, what so many young Chinese composer/artists like myself are devoting our lives to: the best music we can make. If you'd rather hear music that is more "輕鬆", there's plenty out there!
But I believe that our music is our culture, and someday soon the
whole world will listen to Chinese pop music, and thru it, understand
more about Chinese people. I hope my positive energy spreads to you
all as well. Don't be angry, it's not worth it!

Love, peace and music,

Love, peace and music,

It's heart warming to read the message you have posted. It reminded me yet again why I considered you a true musician, unaffected by your environment, staying true to what you believe. I think this truly sets you apart from the rest of the entertainers.

I have bought every one of your albums, although I have only started supporting you from Wei Yi onwards. And I can sincerely said, I can see tremendous improvements in your creation. I truly appreciate the fact that you dare to try. Dare to challenge our ears and create different sounds in each of your album keeping me always in anticipation for what is there to come.

I admire such courage and determination. Keep up the good work. You are my inspiration and I am sure a lot of others share my sentiment.

To end it all, I wanna say that I love "Xing Zhong De Ri Yue". Period.

Nowadays, it's not easy to find someone who really can fulfil their dreams. Ever heard someone say before 'We knows that fairytales are fiction stories, but in everyone's heart, there's a fairytale. If we believe in it, these fairytales will become our true story & it's not just our fantasy.' U're very fortunate to fulfil your own fairytale & I believe that there's more fairytales waiting for u ahead. 'Jia You' Leehom, i'm sure u will fulfil every one of them.

I was greatly touched with your earnest thought about creation.
I always think the most important thing for creation is whether creators have a difinite concept, spirit and passion.
I sensed your idea and mind in "心中的日月", and I felt your Chinese hip-hop music is so cool.
My nationality differs from yours, but I feel reverence for your creation and know your innovation is significant for Chinese music culture.
As your supporter, I want you to create music with profound concept.
So Leehom, I hope you will stick to your thought as you messaged to us.

Thank you very much for expressing your feelings.

With reverence from Tokyo

"Chinked-out"太沉重!

True musicians care only if they could make good music, if their music could inspire the listeners. Not how many awards they are granted, or how much they could make out of an album. We spend countless, sleepless nights writing songs, arranging and producing them. Every single bits of what we wrote is a masterpiece. Nothing could ever replace the pride and satisfaction when you finish a masterpiece. That is what a musician live for.

I've always wanted to learn music in a higher level and you are the one who inspired me to do so. So, be strong and stay creative.

With love, from Boston, MA

hey there...i meet you before at the restaurant last year at s'pore, i guess that time u came to s'pore is to work on this album. Wondering whether u remember me or not? But is ok, just to give you a support. You realy did well as your music style is the best i ever heard before as no body has come out with this kind of style. Those who critic will know sooner or later that they were wrong. They just kind of not use to it, give them some times i believe they will see and understand what you have done.

hi leehom & all the forever fans,

there r lots of ppl out there...no matter wat u do they sure will comments on u...good or bad...whether u like it or not...but jus b urself...coz there u can't please everyone...and there s not such thing tat u r right or wrong...as long as u r doing wat u like and u r happy wif urself...ur fans will forever support u...

jus a little story to share...
there were an old man wif his grandson walking in the desert and carry along a camel wif them.when they walk to a place there were a crowd saying to them "why are you two so torturing?the camel is so pity tat it has to carry u two" so they get down from the camel and walk on their own until they reached another place.here come another crowd saying to them "why are you two so stupid, you should sit on the camel.the camel should carry u ma 'gong gong',u r so old already"so the old man sit on the camel and his grandson follow at the side until they came to another place.here come another crowd again.when they saw the old man sitting on the camel they said "gong gong, how can u do this to ur grandson,u should let him sit on the camel,he is still small"

the moral of the story is no matter wat we did. ppl sure have sumthing to say one.u cannot please everyone.so jus do wat u like and jus b urself.ur true self.

Hullo! The album > is great, there are no words could describe the apreciation of your creation. It is quite seldom on Taiwan or even Asia for you to compose music my putting your self 'behind bars' in your studio. So do you have anything to tell others the way you composed your music? [eagerly]
Andthe warmth of your sound and music are such a cheering object, keep up your good work!

Happy 29th Birthday!

Soft gentle morning.
Sunshine reminds me something.
Day with a very special meaning.
Really hope the sun is not sinking.

• No one has no beginning.
Sweet surprises make you smiling.
From the distance with respectful greeting.
Why is this nature thing worth sending?

CHORUS:

 There will not be other day.
As special as your birthday.
Hope it’s full of joyful things.
Wrapped up with wonderful surprises.
You are longing for, you are wishing for
(Keep on believing).

There will not be other day.
As special as your birthday.
Long to borrow homing goose wings.
To be with you sharing feelings.
Celebrate the only joy we’ve been yearning.
(Keep on believing)

Happy happy birthday.
I say ‘Happy Birthday’ (to the moon and star).
I say ‘Happy Birthday’ (to the sun and sky).
I say ‘Happy Birthday’ (to the wind and cloud).
Let all reflect with blessings.
You’re always so special enchanting.
Special birthday for special being.
Happy happy birthday.

Happy Birthday!

I wish that there are more Chinese musicians out there who thinks like you do. Feel really proud to see finally a Chinese musician who is delivering a messenge through his music.

A lot of the younger Chinese ppls admire american music, they think that hiphop and rap are so cool,so smart. They despise JingJu, they think that the local artists are outdated and not intereting. But I think that maybe JingJu is not created for the nowaday generation, but at least it is a form of music of our OWN, it's what we created as a culture, it belongs to us, and we should be proud of it.

"create a clearer sonic identity for Chinese hip-hop music", it's not going to be an easy task, but it is sure a great and very important one. Like u said LH, ppl are not going to "get it" right away, but that's okay, cause all u can do as an artist, an musician, is to do your best at wat u believes in, and trust me, u've done a damn good job so far.

Dear LeeHom,
Happy (Chinese) Valentine Day!
First of all, congrats on your new album, it is very impressive! I must say your music is not always easy to listen to as new elements are hard to swallowed, and albums that convey message are even harder for most people. I wouldn't listen to this album after a long day of work, or if I want to relax. Aside from that, I must say your thoughts and ideas to introduce/integrate chinese culture in your music is well appreciated. I probably won't feel that way few years back before I leave my country for America. But the longer I am away, the harder I try to hang on to my roots and culture. They are indeed fascinating. I hope your attempt to create a new era in music industry will be a success, and I think it will be. After all, the world is becoming a country on its own. Distance between regions are getting closer, so are the people and culture. Your music might just be the ignition.

I don't know how I come by this website, but it brings you so close to everyone, yet so far from earth. HaHa.. I don't mean you are an alien... Just that, one can read you so well through your music and this website that your happiness, sadness,loneliness...etc could even be felt here. I guess these feelings are strong because you truely live by sensing the world (which is a wonderful thing). What I REALLY want to say is:" It's a virtue to be humble about your achievement, to continue learning and making difference in this world. What you have achieved is great, what lies ahead can only be greater! You not only have music, you ARE music.

If you ever feel down, you have your fans, your friends, your family and my blessing from the Sunshine state.

May the force be with you :)

LeeHom,

'Ni Hao'!!!

WARNING: this is going to be a hell long of a post!!! hahah!!! :P

at first glimpse of the spelling for 'Chinked-Out' i thought it was 'Chicked-Out' (which sounds like chicken out)!!!! hahaha!! such a big difference from what you have in mind!!! haha...just joking though...no hard feeling! ;)

well, i've known you since you came to the music industry with your first album. you are the first American Chinese to came out with a Mandarin album (at least to my knowledge. my history in music is not good at all). i was really impressed and still do. especially when you came out with this new style of mixing cultural music from the east to the west!

honestly, i'm not a fanatic fan that keep updating bout any singer/artist i like. i go with the flow. hahah!!!...i guess my interest are very wide and anything interesting will take me away from one to the other. i love discovering new things. i felt very fortunate to be born in the 'gen-X' generation with all these advance tech and mobility improvement that allows people across the world to get to know each other better. the best is the worldwide web, and speaking of that, i just learned that the born of worldwide web is derive from a tree. worldwide web function just like a tree, everything from the roots to the branches, dividing nutrition, and none of the leaves is the same as the other. the worldwide web is actually a tree!!! it's all about multiplication. amazing....amazing. (...i think you won't even understand what i wrote!!! haha!!! just don't know how to explain in word... :P well, i guess you are smart enough to know! *wink*)

okie, i'm off the topic again..haha!!! so my point is, i've not keep updating news about you. i remember the last i heard was you were playing 'er-hu' and collaboration with kenny-G in a concert. i believe that's ages ago...haha...well, at least i'm gearing back to you now!!! hahaha!!! there is reason to it though. i'm VERY EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with your creation of 'Chink-Out' style, and implementing the ethnics minorities music into your music. i've the same idea lately in the discovery of cultural blend graphic design. by the way, forget to introduce myself haha!!! i'm born and raised in malaysia for 22 years, and study art ever since i started school. now, i'm in the states, Savannah GA to further my study. i just completed my MA in graphic design and am now looking for a design related job (are you hiring any graphic designer?? willing to relocate to anywhere in the world! hahaha!!!). graphic design is my favorite subject. yet, when i get to the states, i'm surrounded with more artistic people from different field, like film and television, architecture, music, and they expanded my artistic interest! haha!! i start to realise, everything in this world work together helping one another!!! everything is in circle!!!!! amazing...amazing... (sometimes i tend to space out and felt the universal greatness around me...haha!!!)

you must think i'm a psycho now...but well, my purpose of this mail is to share some of my thoughts from a 'psycho' designer point of view! haha...or i'm just a very happy spirited girl that appreciate everything that happened to me and on me...and everything that exist in this world!!! i love them all!! even my feeling of frustration, anger, sadness, i love them! because if without them, i wouldn't be a human with feelings!!!!

back to my point...i would like to say thank you so so much because your concept for 'Chinked-Out' style actually helped me realise my thought for a cultural blend design 'will' happen. with you music, i get inspiration to create these 'Chinked-Out' design (hmm...i must come up with some 'stylish' name for my design style!!! hahah!!!). however, i believe there are many designer ahead of me who had thought of these style. yet i will never know!!! design is so subjective!!! but i'm not as lucky as you getting the chance to visit these ethnic minorities in china...plus many places around the world where you held your concert or album promo...so jealous...my dream is to travel around the world one day and visit each country's to understand their culture from the cities to the villages....well, clearly now it will only happen in my dream...hahaha...i'm a bit behind schedule...my age is chasing me!!!! yet, nothing wrong in dreaming! and i can always read about these places and culture as an alternative!!! haha...but personal experience is always the best....sadly to say, i haven't even travel all the places in my hometown, malaysia...ashame..but financial is always the issue for travel and priorities in life. haha!!!

to catch up with your music activities, today as i'm writing this letter, i spent the whole day to do a music catch up to see how you have grow in your music. to me, you start realizing bout these traditional Chinese culture since your song 'Long De Chuan Ren', and experimenting mixing music. i've to say, not a very good success..BUT!!!! i can really see (or should i say 'hear') your music grow from album to album. great job!!!! i really think that is what a musician should do, is to realise how to improve their music and not making music based on the trend. furthermore, you are multi-talent in instrument, language and charity activities, and i believe you have become a most respected artist in the music industry. you are hardworking and your hard work paid off!!!! GIGANTIC CONGRATULATION TO YOUR SUCCESS SO FAR and MORE and MORE TO COME!!! (i'm not ending my mail yet!!! don't you think you can get off!! haha!!! well, i'm excited whenever i get the chance to find someone that is intelligent and smart, yet they remember 'who' they are and appreciate it...i wish to learn from you...plus! you are part of my inspiration for my 'Chinked-Out' design! *blush*)

...i've no design to share with you as i'm just starting my experiment. but i do have some music, which i found very interesting to share with you. you probably knew this singer since you grew up in Rochester, NY (by the way, i'm currently in the middle of planning to move up NY. would love to get some advice from you bout NY as well! *wink*). well, his name is Pharrell (don't know the correct spelling :S), and he is from the group NERD (if i'm not mistaken). i found his music very unique. i've attached some of his music to share with you. he is a very creative musician as well. but he always does collaboration, esp Snoop Dogg. talking bout Snoop, have you heard a music my Korn call 'Twisted Transmitter'? that song is interesting but the Music Video is the best!!! hahaha!!!! i wish i can show you but you might already seen it...anyway, i'm just sharing. i've been influence with many hip hop + rap music since i stay over the south side of the states...the ATL where you can find rappers like P Diddy, Ludacris, TLC, etc. but i dislike 50cents and his group G-Unit, and Yin Yang Twins or any rapper that just rap bout girls booty, blings, etc. pointless.

now going to lyrics. i found your music has a content to each of them and that's what make it interesting! haha!!! but the Music Video idea for 'Finally', from the Heroes of Earth album, is a copied story isn't it??? i remember seeing a Korean singer (forget his name...because it's Korean... :P) made a similar MV. the only difference is the korean MV is about a photographer while you are a street boxer (is it???), and the end of the story is EXACTLY the SAME!!! the korean singer give up his photography career by donating his eye to the girl, which is the same as your 'Finally' MV!!!! i'm disappointed with that MV....because its not original.....*sigh*....

anyway, i'm more interested in your lyrics! yeah. your music lyrics lift my spirit up! esp the lyrics for 'Zai Mei Bian', so true!!! love those little silly fairytale love song as well. esp 'Da Cheng Xiao Ai'!!! i love that song a lot because for me....i just want a simple little love story!!! hahaha!!! i'm dreaming far now...but am pulling me back so i can finish this letter and go to bed!! hahaha!!! a question bout that song, does that song came from your conversation with the ethnic girl living in the mountain you met in your trip to Yunnan? haha...got to watch part of that from YouTube (again, thanks to the web, i get to watch archive program!) she was singing a village love song to you!!! haha...i'm just curious. :P in real life, i've been told that i ask too much questions!!! hahaha!!! but if you never ask, you'll never know!!! the dumbest person is the person who don't ask! *putting on sunglasses, acting cool* :P

..phew..i'm drying out..haha!! i guess i've spit out a compilation of thoughts from my one day experience to catch up with your music. i hope you understand what i'm writing there. basically just sharing my thoughts with you and thanking you for your music that brings up my spirit, and gave me inspiration for my design! *hugs*!!! and most importantly, i wish you all the best and do KEEP UP THE SPIRIT in writing music, and experience and learn as many thing as you can since you have all the privileges!!! you have a great and wonderful day everyday, 24/7!!!! *BIG TIGHT HUG*!!! thank you....and do hope i get to share more with you in future! :)

take care....have fun!!! and be HAPPY!!! :D

MISSING THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!! i really truly respect you as a singer and as a person. even though i don't know you personally, but from what i've seen and heard, you are definitely a great person....so far!!! hahaha!!! joking... :P *90 degree bow* (out of respect!) ;)

love always,
yulien

I suggest that you hold a concert at madison square gardens...
there will be a myriad of fans waiting at the gates of the colloseam for you.I know so...
Even if you can't have a concert at madison square gardens, it would be REALLY nice for you to have a concert in the US. It's not really fair that you hold a majority of your concerts in asia. I just want to let you know that...

Dear Leehom,

Happy happy birthday!
And thank you for letting us know Asian 音楽 is also beautiful compared
to western music.

I would like to say that your 心中的日月 was the first Chinese album that I bought.
I dropped by one of the famous CD shops in 札幌 and listened to it.
I was caught with your melody and your 声.
I lived in Vancouver for 1 year and 7 mths, which gave me the thought of what my identity was.
And there you go, this album and the newest album inspire me a lot that
I am one of Asians and should be proud of myself.

Again,
Thank you, Leehom.
I hope you will continue to let us hear the greatest music.
Now I am studying Chinese.
I would like be just like you, too.
You are my real hero!
